Being my first rogue-like game, I went into Risk of Rain 2 with an open mind and got engaged to the gameplay loop almost immediately. While most games have you grinding for a big item, or trying to beat a boss, this game has you do that but multiple time per game. Every item stacks its effects and creates interesting and dynamic builds only because it’s fun. Every survivor has their own niche which makes them suited for fighting different enemies better. For example the Huntress can take out waves of small enemies whereas MUL-T can shred bosses with his lethal nail gun. The game lets you have multiple of the same survivor in the same game so there isn’t any fighting over survivors, which is a must have for a game like this. For being in alpha and steam early access, I am pleasantly surprised with how smooth and clean the gameplay is . I recommend playing with friends, but I found that the game is equally as enjoyable with 1 partner, as with 3.

The further you get the more you realize that some of the survivors are better suited for deep runs, but you have to make it really far to get to that point. Due to the reliance on the finite loot, you are rewarded for being greedy, therefore, Risk of rain 2 will test your friendships. The game lacks a few quality of life changes, but some mods can fix these (ex. Being able to drop items).
Overall this game is worth a buy considering its 20 $ price tag, and if not, keep an eye for a sale. This game has nowhere to go but up.
