This game combines some of my favorite things, zombies, base building, and early access games that always get updates, I’ve played this game for an extremely long time and seen it evolve over time, from a brand new release with only a few zombie types and not a ton of stuff to do, all the way to the newest update that overhauled the entire weapons and armor system, additionally new vehicles including a helicopter.

7 Days to Die takes a very different approach to a open world, base building, zombie game, in the fact that you and whatever cohorts you can bring together have to find as many materials, weapons, clothes, and armor, build the most fortified base, with the best defenses, then hope you have set yourself up in a strategic position, fortified all your blocks and when the 7th day comes other wise known as a blood moon. The blood moon comes every 7 days, when it does every enemy becomes faster, stronger, and more deadly, the horde will destroy everything near you unless you set enough traps, from spikes to pitfalls, anything can be useful as long as it leads to the next morning.

7 Days has been out for quite a while and each update adds a bunch of new things to play with, unfortunately after a while the game can get slightly repetitive, reaching the 70th plus day, looting the same buildings, fighting the same enemies, it’s always fun to explore the giant sprawling cities, to the tiny little town, each varying in design and architecture in the procedurally generated maps, every once in a while there will be a tiny lore piece that starts to hint at a story but doesn’t go much farther then a few scraps of paper talking about how the infection was made, created, or spread, and sometimes you find zombies in glass cases.

Overall the game has a lot of good things going for it and it is ever expanding with major updates, good community communication meaning the dev’s actually give the people what they want, on the downside the game can get repetitive, with the same rinse and repeat clearing houses, getting the same loot. Music is always a good fit with intense fight music but also nice ambient sounds. There is some content that could be added that would make things a little more interesting but there is still a ton of things to play with and explore, with and ever expanding map huge cities and towns, a giant and ever growing list of tools, weapons, armor, and vehicles, with much more to come in the foreseeable future with the dev’s dedication this game is definitely one to pick up and watch develop as it keeps growing.
